Signs Of A Psychopath

A psychopath is a person who is suffering from a chronic mental disorder, who is violent in nature, and has abnormal social behavior. In psychiatry, the true definition of a psychopath is an antisocial personality disorder.

"Most people might assume that this describes someone who is reserved, a loner, keeps to himself, etc. However, this is not the case in ASPD. When we say anti-social in ASPD, it means someone who goes against the society, rules, and other behaviors that are more commonplace,” says Dr. Prakash Masand, a psychiatrist and the founder of the Centers of Psychiatric Excellence.

Here are some of the signs of a psychopath.

Shows no remorse:

Psychopaths have no remorse for their actions. They don’t have a conscience and they don’t regret what they did even if their actions have made someone suffer or be in pain. They just don’t feel anything after doing whatever they feel like or want to do at the cost of harming others.

Lack empathy:

They don’t care about anyone, not even their family members. They don't feel distressed or guilty even if they hurt someone or while hurting someone. They feel numb towards the pain of others. Their words and actions can be very damaging to others. And the reactions of a psychopath can be really toxic because even if someone approaches them to discuss their wounds they won't admit their actions and are likely to deny them.

They are charming and impressive:

You won’t be able to figure out a psychopath by their appearance. They are very charming in their approach especially when they want something. They are good at impressing others with their charm and this is how they earn the trust of others and can easily manipulate them.

Psychopaths don’t have a conscience:

They first act and then they might think but they hardly think about it while acting, and don’t they don't even care about its consequences. They lie, steal, cheat without a second thought. Even if you confront them for their behavior they will deny their wrongdoings and may blame others or may end up giving a statement that they deserve to be treated this way. They don't really care whom they are hurting, they will go ahead with it to get what they want. They don’t feel bad about the damage that their actions had lead to.

Grandiose sense of self-importance:

Somewhat like a narcissist, even psychopaths think that the rules aren't meant for them or apply to them. And this is one of the reasons that leads psychopaths to commit crimes without any fear of getting caught. They have this thought that they are better, smarter than everyone, and assume that they can get anything they want. They have this sense of self-importance and believe that they deserve better and more than the rest of the world.

Irresponsible and rule-breakers:

It is normal for them to behave irresponsibly. They are not at all responsible and thus even their family members can’t rely on them. They feel like laws and rules are not meant for them. And their actions seem so normal like there is no sign of fear or stress while violating the rules or behaving irresponsibly. They can easily get away by doing wrong things.

They are good at manipulating:

They are intelligent and good manipulators. They can manipulate a person for their own benefits and in such a way that their activities go unnoticed. They can understand others’ emotions on a very intellectual level and thus they use this understanding for their own advantage. They use it to manipulate others. They even try to get sympathy from others, they victimize themselves so that they can get help or care from others.

The reason for it can be more genetic, like genes that can influence a person to be a psychopath or even environment can play a role in it.

It cannot be cured, it can only be controlled by applying the reward method or the environment can help in controlling it.
