8 Reasons Of Sleeplessness

Sleeplessness is when you find it very hard to sleep, or even after falling asleep you find it difficult to stay asleep for longer and wake up early, and then its impossible for you to sleep again and you stay awake for the whole night. It will not only drain your energy and make you feel tired but can also affect your work performance and quality of life. Sleeping hours vary from person to person but at least 8 hours of sleep is recommended for an adult. Many people experience short-term insomnia and the cause can be due to stress, workload, traumatic experiences, or some interferences which can last for days or weeks. Some people also suffer from long-term insomnia that can last for months or more.
If not paid proper attention this sleeplessness will not only have short-term effects but even long-term effects. It affects both your physical and mental health. Even a day without sleep may cause headaches and make you feel exhausted. so if this continues for long, it can have many harmful effects.
Many reasons can be behind your sleeplessness. Sleeplessness can occur due to may reasons and some of them may include:
Stress:
A lot of people say that no matter how the days go but as night hits, worry accompanies it. Stress about school, college, family, work, health, finance, or even about the future, these worries may not let you sleep properly. Even the traumatic experiences like the death or loss of loved ones, or divorce, break-up, or job loss can keep you awake and make it hard to sleep.
Irregular sleep timing:
When you don’t follow a proper regular pattern of sleep your body may be confused as to when to fall asleep and when to wake up. Following poor sleeping habits or irregular timing can make it hard for you to fall asleep or get proper quality sleep. Using your bedtime for work, using mobile phones, watching television, playing games, or changing shifts can be the reason behind irregular or incomplete sleep.
Lifestyles choices:
An unhealthy lifestyle like having junk foods and drinks, following unhealthy habits and routines can affect your sleep. For example, like sleeping during the day or doing other activities late at night, taking caffeine or alcohol before sleep, or eating a heavy meal that can make you feel uncomfortable or cause indigestion and can keep you awake while you try to fall asleep.
Aging:
With aging there follows many diseases like Alzheimer’s, dementia, along with memory loss. And can even interrupt your sleep.
Even menopause can affect your sleep. Your body stops making estrogens and progesterone, this sudden change in hormones can make one sensitive to stress and thus, it can affect your sleep.
Physical pain or illness:
Any physical pain can keep you awake. Some health conditions too can disrupt your sleep. It can increase your stress and deprive you of sleep.
Specific sleep-disorder:
Specific sleep disorders like apnea cause numerous breathing lapses and stops your breath periodically throughout the night, and interrupts your sleep.
Mental health disorders:
As it is said that anxiety and lack of sleep feed on each other, some other mental health disorders like PTSD, panic attacks also affect your sleep. Being unable to sleep or awakening too early can even be a sign of depression.
Medication:
A lot of prescribed medicines can interfere with your sleep. Medicines such as anti-depressants, or medications for blood pressure or asthma can interfere with your sleep. Even some medicines contain caffeine and other stimulants that can affect your sleep.
These are some of the reasons for sleeplessness.
