Signs Of A Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder is a mental disorder where you feel or think everything is unstable. It starts impacting the way you think or feel. A person suffering from BPD feels like they are on a rollercoaster ride, they not only feel like their emotions are unstable but they are also confused about who they actually are. They don’t have a strong sense of self. Their likes and dislikes frequently change, even their goals and self-image. They have intense reactions or may overreact to everything that is happening around them and are extremely sensitive. Here are some of the signs of a borderline personality disorder.


Fear of abandonment:

Intense fear of abandonment where a person feels like they cannot survive alone. Be it in an intimate relationship or any relationship, friendship, they have this fear of abandonment and even the small actions of the people around them can trigger this fear.


Unstable relationship:

It can be intimate or any close relationship like family, friendship or workplace relationship, they start it very passionately being wanting to be with them 24/7 but suddenly there maybe loud arguments, followed by anger. Almost all their relationship are level by this intensity, passionately.


Suicidal behaviors or thoughts or self-harming:

This behavior is not to get rid of life but rather to get rid of the emotional pain, or to get rid of the situation they are in that moment. Even the extreme fear of abandonment can lead to such thoughts. They can harm themselves to avoid emotional pain, leading to gestures of self-harming.


Shifting self-image:

Shifting self-image or identity disturbance is when a person doesn’t know who they really are. They may constantly change their appearance in this process. In general, their identity is disrupted and chaotic.


Impulsivity:

People with BPD may often act or behave without thinking. It can include substance use, gambling, or spending. They act in the moment without actually thinking about anything and this can be dangerous.

Extreme mood swings:

People with BPD have extreme emotional mood swings. They can shift from being sad to happy in a fraction of seconds. Extreme sadness, anger, anxiety can be seen in people with BPD. Their mood can shift and fluctuate in a very short period of time. They express their emotions very strongly leading to the outburst of it, be it anger or sadness.


Explosive anger:

They not only suffer from extreme mood swings but also explosive anger. People with BPD may have anger issues and can be short-tempered. And no one knows what can trigger their anger, it can be the smallest thing but their reaction to it can be very explosive. They may react to it by throwing things or yelling.


Feeling void or emptiness:

People with borderline personality disorder chronically feel empty. They may feel like there is nothing inside them. Thus, always struggling with the thought that they need to feel whole.
