Diabetes is a condition where the body doesn't process food properly for use as energy. It is a disease that occurs when the blood glucose also known as blood sugar is too high. Insulin helps glucose from food to get into the cells to be used as energy but at times the body doesn't make it or producing enough of it. The glucose doesn't reach the cells and thus stays in the blood.
Diabetes is a chronic disease that is common among adults and young people. It can affect other organs or damage them, it may even lead to stroke or cardiac arrest that is fatal. Since diabetes is a chronic disease it is not curable but manageable. Utopia Life Coach has come up with some foods that diabetics people should avoid.
White rice, pasta, and bread:
These foods are high in carbohydrates, processed foods. These foods contain little fiber and it is a fiber that helps to slow the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream.
A study found that high carb foods not only raised blood sugar but also decreased brain function in people with type 2 diabetes and mental deficits
Sweetened cereals:
If you have diabetes do not think of starting your day by eating cereals as it can be the worst way to start your day. Most cereals are highly processed and contain more carbohydrates than most people realize. They even provide less protein and it is a protein that can help you feel full and satisfied along with keeping your blood sugar levels stable during the day. Choose protein over cereals to keep your blood and hunger under control.
Dried fruits:
Fruits are very healthy as it contains several important minerals and vitamins but along with it, they contain sugar as well. So when these fruits are dried they lose water in the process that leads to even higher concentrations of these nutrients. Thus, it leads to a higher concentration of sugar content that makes it unhealthy for diabetic people. Dried fruits are higher in carbs too as compared to fresh fruits. Go for fresh berries or apples or some low-sugar fruits that can provide health benefits by maintaining your blood sugar level.
French fries or potatoes:
Potatoes are high in carbs for which they are not a healthy choice for diabetic people and are on the list to avoid foods by people with diabetes. French fries should be avoided as they are a product of potato that has been peeled and fried in oil and thus they produce high amounts of toxic compounds like aldehydes and ages that can promote inflammation and increase the risk of disease.
Dairy products:
Diary product contains saturated fats. They not only raise your LDL cholesterol level and increase heart disease risk but are also cause serious problems for diabetic patients.
The research found that eating a diet high in saturated fat may worsen insulin resistance.
Fruit juice and sugar-sweet beverages:
Fruit juice is often considered a healthy beverage but not for diabetic people. Be it fresh juice made from fresh fruits or packed juice, it has a similar effect on blood sugar as those of other sugary drinks. It is found that in some cases fruit juice has higher sugar content than soda. Fruit juice is more likely to cause a sugar spike in the body as compared to whole fruits. Since juicing is a kind of processing that breaks down the fiber, fruit juice provides less fiber. And sugar-sweetened beverages like hot and cold drinks that contain sugar also do the same. These drinks are loaded with fructose which is directly linked with diabetes and insulin.
Studies suggest that consuming sugar-sweetened beverages may increase the risk of diabetes-related conditions like fatty liver disease.
Sugar or any sweetened products:
Be it the natural sweetness or processed sugar, the body doesn’t distinguish between them, it just knows that it is sugar and thus can spike your blood sugar level. So it is advised to reduce sugar in your diet.
